Review Of The Divergent By Veronica Roth

Divergent is one of my favorite series, but I personally prefer the first book. Divergent is a book I love to read in a relaxing atmosphere. It’s the perfect blend of dystopian and fantasy. This book is a 10/10.

Divergent is the story of Tris, a young woman who is struggling to find her way in her society. Her society is divided up into “factions” based on the values they hold most dear, like bravery, kindness, and honesty. She overhears leaders of factions discussing an attack against her old group, Abnegation. Tris fights alongside her instructor, who is now her boyfriend, to protect her new friends and home. Tris’s point of view is used throughout the book. This makes her the primary character. Tris’s perspective is told in both the second and third books. This book is for young adults or teens who want to explore a different society. This novel’s plot is filled with unexpected twists, ensuring that the reader does not get bored. Although the novel is set in the distant future, many of its themes can be applied to everyday life.

This book’s theme is, simply put, identity. Tris tries to fit in and find her place throughout the book. Tris lives in a society with strict rules that can have severe consequences if they are broken. To find her place in the world, she abandons her family and faction, Abnegation. Instead, she joins the Dauntless. She meets new friends and enemies, and slowly begins to understand who she is. This book quote illustrates the theme. “I think the Abnegation way of life is beautiful when I observe it from afar… I am in love again with this life. When I try to live the lifestyle myself, I get stuck. It’s never felt genuine”. Tris’s life is confusing, as this quote shows. She knows in her heart that she must love her family and be selfless. She often wonders what her life would have been like if it wasn’t for the fact that she was born selfless. This quote shows the doubt she has about the life she leads, and how that led her to discover who she truly is.

This book is amazing. I can read this book endlessly, and it will never get old. Although the film is great, it misses out on many details. I prefer to read books.
